For Anti-Bullying Week 2024 we have once again held our School Staff Award, where pupils can nominate teachers and school staff that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to prevent and respond to bullying and to raise awareness of bullying in school.
Competition this year has been stiff - with hundreds of nominations. In the end, it was the unenviable job of our panel of children & young people to decide the winners.
We are so pleased to have had the support of Radnor FAM who sponsored this award. Every single member of school staff that was nominated received a certificate of nomination, whilst the winners received a framed certificate, trophy, as well as some wonderful prizes thanks to Radnor FAM.
We are also grateful for the support of BulliesOut who also sponsored the award in Wales.
So, without any further ado, please see our 2024 winners below!
England Winners:
Primary School Winner: Tyron Devonish (Ark Academy)
Secondary School Winner: Ms Hurt (Kingsbury High School)
The pupil who nominated Tyron Devonish said:
"Mr Devonish is one of the best adults in school! He is always welcoming and always has time for you, even when he is busy. He listens and makes you feel better by playing games to cheer you up. He never says no to solving friendship issues. If you’re getting bullied, he will make sure that he solves it and that you make friends in the end. If something happens where we don’t feel safe then we can speak to Mr Devonish. He set up Talk Time – when you really need to talk to someone you write it down on the Talk Time sheet and then post it. He will then read it and speaks to you about it quite quickly! Mr Devonish makes you feel comfortable in the school, even when you are new, by checking-in. He helps you with your mental health, he asks you questions with what you need help with and then solves it. He organises fun event days likes Hello Yellow Day and fun trips. He let’s children go to the playscheme for free when they are feeling down. He bought go-karts for everyone to have fun. He brings joy to the school everyday!"
The pupil who nominated Ms Hurt said:
"Ms Hurt is one of the most supportive and loving teachers we have in our school. She takes bullying and our wellbeing very seriously. Ms Hurt try’s very hard to prevent bullying. She set up an ‘Anonymous’ email for children within our school struggling to speak up so they can talk to her online, since it may be easier than coming forward face to face. Ms Hurt leads the ‘anti bullying team’ and arranges meetings with us frequently. In our meetings we organise anti bullying poster competitions, anti bullying assemblies etc. By doing this, we give a chance for all the student to get creative and think about why bullying is wrong, then as a team we’ll chose winners and ms Hurt will reward them and put there posters up around the school. This then helps prevent bullying"

Wales Winners:
Primary School Winner: Jo Albrighton (Ysgol Gwernymynydd)
Secondary School Winner:Anya Edgeley-Davies (Ysgol Emrys Ap Iwan)
The pupil who nominated Jo Albrighton said:
"At lunchtime, she is always helpful and kind. No one gets bullied because she is there to help them. She is always there to help people even if they did the wrong thing, and she will always forgive them. And she's very funny. She always helps people when they are sad. Even when I was younger, she would always help me with my work. She always puts a smiley face on our cakes with whipped cream - this makes us all feel happy and it's funny. Then because we're happy, no one will be mean to each other. She'll always be there for you. Mrs Albrighton is the GOAT (greatest of all teachers)."
The pupil who nominated Anya Edgeley-Davies said:
"Mrs. Edgeley-Davies should receive the Anti-Bullying Week School Staff Award because she goes above and beyond in making every student feel valued, heard, and safe. She’s always there to listen when you have a problem, offering her support without judgment. Whether you’re struggling with bullying or just feeling overwhelmed, Mrs. Edgeley-Davies is like a mini therapist, giving thoughtful advice and reassurance that truly helps. She doesn’t just sort things out—she actively ensures every student feels supported, helping us come up with solutions and encouraging us to feel empowered. She’s constantly working behind the scenes to foster a positive environment at school, whether that’s by addressing bullying head-on or promoting kindness and respect through her actions and words. Her genuine care and dedication have made a big impact on our school. Mrs. Edgeley-Davies isn’t just a teacher—she’s a role model who demonstrates compassion and strength every day. She gives students the confidence to stand up for themselves and others, helping to create a culture where bullying isn’t tolerated and everyone feels included. Her commitment to making school a better place for all of us deserves recognition, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award."

Northern Ireland Winners:
Primary School Winner: Clare Doherty (St Patricks Primary School)
Secondary School Winner:Mr Gary Hetherington (Strabane Academy)
The pupil who nominated Clare Doherty said:
"My teacher promotes antibullying week in our school every year. She holds a competition for the children to invent a superhero who helps children to deal with bullying. It's a great way for us all to learn about bullying in a fun way and express our ideas creatively. All of the children love it and she has an awards ceremony and displays our posters in the school. My teacher brings the school community together during antibullying week every year."
The pupil who nominated Mr Gary Hetherington said:
“Mr Hetherington is a role model example of what it means to be an Antibullying Ambassador within the school. I have been fortunate enough to spend three years of my school life as an Anti-bullying Ambassador under the guidance and leadership of Mr Hetherington and as a result he has taught us so many skills to combat bullying within our school and wider community. Every Tuesday that our club meets he is equipped with new and innovative ways to celebrate diversity and challenge bullying within our school community, allowing our Ambassadors the space to excel, many of us being previous victims of bullying. He creates a safe space for us to take initiative and combat bullying and negativity of any kind throughout the school, and deserves this award more than anyone else I could think of. Please consider him for this award as he is such a role model for myself and our students."
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS THIS YEAR!
