The United Against Bullying Programme
The United Against Bullying Programme is a whole-school anti-bullying programme for schools in England.
It is funded by the Department for Education and delivered by the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA). ABA is part of the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) - which is a registered charity, No. 258825, registered in England and Wales No. 952717, whose registered office is 23 Mentmore Terrace, Hackney, London E8 3PN, a Company Limited by Guarantee.
The United Against Bullying Programme Awards
A ‘United Against Bullying School’ is a school that has been recognised for its work to reduce bullying and improve the wellbeing of its pupils over the course of the programme. The United Against Bullying Award requires schools to provide evidence of the measures they have put in place to prevent and tackle bullying and their commitment to doing so. Schools are awarded either Bronze, Silver or Gold status against the award criteria. Schools that do not meet the criteria for an award are not considered United Against Bullying Schools, though they will be provided with a certificate of participation to acknowledge their efforts in completing all steps of the programme.
Being awarded United Against Bullying School status does not imply that bullying never takes place at that school. ABA can in no way take responsibility for practice within schools that have received the award, this will always remain the responsibility of the staff within the school community.
Taking part or gaining an award on the United Against Bullying programme does not mean that ABA endorses the school or the work of the school. ABA does not endorse the work of schools unless explicitly agreed in writing.
Guidelines for using the United Against Bullying School Logos and Certificates
- The United Against Bullying School logos and certificates are only available for use in schools that have achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold United Against Bullying School status.
- Schools receive a logo and certificate that indicates the status they have achieved (Bronze, Silver or Gold). Only schools that have achieved the Bronze, Silver or Gold award are considered United Against Bullying Schools.
- Schools that have completed the programme but not met the criteria for an award will be issued with a certificate of participation to recognise their effort in completing the programme but this does not mean they have achieved an award.
- The use of the logo cannot be transferred to a third party.
- The year the award was achieved is printed on the logo and certificate though schools are welcome to continue using them beyond the year in which they were achieved providing their use is in accordance with these terms.
How to use the United Against Bullying School Logos and Certificates
- The logo can be used on websites, headed papers and other relevant materials (school displays, charters, posters, etc.) by schools that have been awarded their Bronze, Silver or Gold status.
- The logo can only be used and reproduced in the format provided – neither the colour nor shape can be altered.
- The logo can only be used to demonstrate the school’s level of success on the United Against Bullying programme rather than an endorsement of any other specific materials or activity.
- Schools must only use the logo that represents the status they have achieved (Bronze, Silver or Gold)
We reserve the right to withdraw a school's award and/or certificate where these Terms of Reference are breached. In these instances, schools will be notified in writing.
