Prof Noel Purdy is Director of Research and Scholarship and Director of CREU (the Centre for Research in Educational Underachievement) at Stranmillis University College, Belfast.
Professor Noel Purdy is Director of Research and Scholarship and Director of the Centre for Research in Educational Underachievement at Stranmillis University College, Belfast. A former teacher, he has worked in teacher education since 2006. His main areas of research interest are in educational underachievement, SEN and pastoral care, with a particular interest in addressing online and offline bullying in schools. He was a member of the NI Anti-Bullying Forum 2010-2023 and chair 2013-2016. He chaired the Northern Ireland Executive's Expert Panel on Educational Underachievement, and also chaired the DE Steering Committee in the Republic of Ireland which reviewed the Irish national Action Plan on Bullying (The new action plan Cineáltas was launched on 1 December 2022). He is Editor of the international journal 'Pastoral Care in Education' and is a parent governor of a local special school outside Belfast.
