Welsh Government Launches Consultation on Updated Anti-Bullying Guidance

The Welsh Government has initiated a public consultation on its revised statutory anti-bullying guidance, Rights, Respect, Equality, aimed at maintained schools and educational settings across Wales. The consultation period is open until Thursday, 31 July 2025.

This updated guidance seeks to:

  • Support schools in fostering positive and respectful relationships among learners.
  • Strengthen measures against bullying based on prejudice and race.
  • Address the impact of bullying on learners' mental health and wellbeing.
  • Encourage collaboration between schools, the NHS, and third-sector organizations.
  • Reinforce the message that bullying is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.(GOV.WALES)

The consultation invites input from a broad range of stakeholders, including children and young people, parents and carers, education practitioners, public services, and voluntary and third-sector organisations.

The Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) welcomes this opportunity to contribute to the revision of the guidance. We will be working with the organisations in our ABA Wales steering Group to develop a detailed response that reflect our agreed Wales policy recommendations. We are committed to supporting efforts that ensure all learners feel safe, respected, and supported in their educational environments.

We encourage all interested parties to participate in the consultation and share their perspectives. For more information and to submit your views, please visit the Welsh Government's consultation page: https://www.gov.wales/rights-respect-equality-anti-bullying-guidance
