Rating description:
- Fully met: Anti-bullying training is written into all new staff induction processes and all new staff complete this training
- Partially met: It is either written into the process but not all staff have done it or it is not written into the process but most staff do do it as part of induction
- Not yet met: Anti-bullying training is not written into the staff induction process
Tips:
Anti-Bullying training should be a core part of ALL school staff induction. This can be done in a variety of ways but we would suggest:
- Giving a copy and outlining the Anti-Bullying Policy
- Providing them and encouraging them to do the ABA Free CPD Online Training especially the first two modules: 1) what is bullying? 2) bullying and the law
- Telling them who the lead member of staff is for bullying in the school and the lead governor
- Explaining clearly the school's expectations of how we treat each other
- Explaining the method for reporting and recording bullying
- Explaining that bullying is a barrier to learning and when bullying must be treated as a safeguarding issue
- Review the staff induction content routinely
Some of the Anti-Bullying Alliance's Core Members provide anti-bullying training. Please also see the links below.
Schools that took part in our programmes said:
When new staff are inducted the anti-bullying co-ordinator will go through the policy with them so that they are aware of how we deal with incidents of bullying at our school. This ensures that they are aware of consistency. Every year staff go through training to ensure that they are up to date and aware of the policy and the measures that need to be taken. We have focused quite a lot on cyber bullying throughout the year.
The project has enabled us to improve CPD opportunities for all staff. By also completing the audit we identified areas where can strengthen our existing practice e.g. all new staff complete safeguarding training but we have now widened this to include anti-bullying training.
